Oldest participant of the World Gymnaestrada 2015 Helsinki was an 89 year old male gymnast from Finland. But not very far from his age were the oldest volunteers. Finnish Eelis Asikainen and Greta Laurio-Eronen, both respectfully seen 81 summers in their lives, didn’t let their age to stop them to be a part of the organising team of the World Gymnaestrada. For both of them the volunteering at the World Gymnaestrada in Helsinki was an obvious thing.
The Get Together Area is full of people on an early Tuesday evening when we go after a new story. People are laughing and having fun. Groups of different nationalities are everywhere if one is to believe the clothes people are wearing. One group particularly stands out from the crowd. We step into the group to ask a few questions for our gallop but the story that they share with us sums the true meaning of the World Gymnaestrada perfectly.
You used the local transportation system, filled your water bottle at water stations, recycled your waste and ate with wooden sticks at the Get Together Area. You probably have heard and read the news of The World Gymnaestrada 2015 Helsinki receiving an EcoCompass for its environmental work. How many of you have thought how and when all work to make this possible happened?
Eighty percent of World Gymnaestrada participants were females. Some of the men explain why all boys should give gymnastics a try.
